In his sermon, The Justice of God in the Damnation of Sinners, Jonathan Edwards gives us a sobering description of the man who lives in rebellion to his Maker:
… a little, wretched, despicable creature; a worm, a mere nothing, and less than nothing; a vile insect that has risen up in contempt against the Majesty of heaven and earth.
All Christians were once living in that same proud rebellion. Surprisingly, God didn’t squash us, but instead He adopted us into His family. What an incredible act of undeserved love.
Alas! and did my Savior bleed
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?
